2010 Best Practice Award Results

In honor of Patient Safety Week, OPSI will reveal a 2010 Best Practice Award finalist each day this week and the winner Friday, March 12.

OPSI congratulates Wednesday’s 2010 Best Practice Award finalist, St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, for its implementation of a Leapfrog Initiative to improve patient safety and outcomes in the Intensive Care Unit. By developing and following an ICU collaborative model, the initiative evolved into an ICU culture focused on team decision-making processes and implementation of evidence-based guidelines, policies and procedures. Average length of stay, ventilator days, ventilator-associated pneumonias, blood stream infections and mortality decreased. Palliative care consults increased and costs ultimately decreased. Moving to Accountability

Online registration is now open for OPSI's 2010 Teleconference series.  This 8-part audio conference series will focus on a culture of accountability to improve patient safety processes. Join us Wednesday, March 10, for our second session: Contributing to a Culture of Safety by Preventing Ventilator- Associated Pneumonia, presented in conjunction with Patient Safety Week.
